What to Expect
The bad news first. Let’s be honest. Even just thinking about going to a therapy session for the first time might feel awkward, frightening, and stressful. Life is hard enough without having to go to a complete stranger and talk about our problems, right?!
The good news. Therapists are humans first. They know firsthand what it is like to feel real emotions associated with awkward firsts or with discussing personal information. Therapists know you might feel awkward, shy, maybe embarrassed or confused about attending therapy. Therapists are especially good at helping people talk about themselves in a supportive, nonjudgmental, and measured manner. Your words might come out with tears. That is okay. Therapists are excellent at stocking tissues. Your words might come out with anger, sadness, happiness, or laughter. Also okay. Therapists help expand the way you perceive, think, and feel so you can learn how to be a healthier you.

If you have an insurance plan that includes out-of-network coverage of mental health treatment, often 30-50 percent of the fee might be covered as an out-of-network provider. It would be helpful to call your insurance company and ask about out-of-network coverage as well as any deductible you might have. I am happy to assist you with checking your insurance benefits and fees.
